Battle Bridges

bbridge.jpg (24380 bytes) The Battle Bridges aboard the Ajax are located on decks 05 and 08, for the middle and lower module, respectively. These Bridges are designed for one purpose only - to fight.

They are optimized for maximum efficiency in battle, and have no extraneous stations such as Science or Environmental control. There is only one seat on a Battle Bridge - for the Commanding Officer of the module, as it is usually only a short-term seperations and comfort is not required. At the rear of the Battle Bridge is a turbolift, with Strategic ops to port and Ops to starboard. Fore of that in the center is the command seat, with display consoles on either side on an upraised ring around the Bridge. Fore of the command seat, located centrally, are the Conn and Tactical stations set in an array much like those on the main Bridge.

The fore wall is covered by a large holographic display screen, akin to that on the main Bridge, but optimized for Tactical situation display. The screen is often used in combat to display a computer-generated, three-dimensional tactical readout that is much more efficient than an ordinary optical display.

All three Bridges are equipped with dedicated ODN trunks with multiple redundancies, tied into the Tactical Computer Coordination System (TCCS). Each TCCS is in direct realtime communication with the other two, and using the advanced coordination provided by the system, the ship can execute very advanced manouevres in MVA mode with minimal Conn input. It is possible to fly the ship in MVA mode from one bridge (usually the main Bridge), although results are better when each section is being individually controlled.

When in MVA mode, the upper section of the ship is commanded by the Captain, the middle section by the Executive Officer, and the lower section by the Chief Tactical Officer. No Executive Officer is assigned to each individual section, as the seperation is usually short-lived.

-SEPERATION PROCEEDURE-
1)
Upon initiation of seperation proceedures, the entire ship is brought to Red Alert (if it is not already), and all crew, regardless of shift, are ordered to report to their assigned duty stations. For this reason, the crew of any particular section will also have their quarters in that section.
2) The Commanding Officer of the section will be transported to that section's Battle Bridge by priority turbolift, and once the full Bridge crew has reported, turboshafts between sections will be retracted and sealed.
3) 56 seconds before seperation. Each section's warp core is brought online, and the warp field (if at warp) is adjusted accordingly to compensate for the changes in hull profile.
4) 20 seconds before seperation. All umbilicals and data lines are retracted, and each section's computer core takes command of the section's functions and each TCCS comes online.
5) 10 seconds before seperation. Magnetic interlocks power down and docking latches retract. At this point, the sections are held together only by a combination of localized forcefields and the Structural Integrity Field.
6) 5 seconds before seperation. Crew instructed to brace for seperation. Collapse of SIF and localized forcefields. Thrusters propel the upper and lower sections away from the center section at a rate of 100m/s.
7) Seperation compete. All sections 500m apart, crew instructed that seperation is complete and ships are free to engage in combat.
